Women are the backbone of Africa. The proverb says: “if you train a woman, you train a community.” Time and time again, we have seen the truth in this proverb. Africa is waking up to the importance of acknowledging women’s roles in all areas of society. In fact, “women entrepreneurs” is the fastest growing demographic in many parts of Africa!
It is EMIT’s goal to further equip women who are already making a difference in their communities. We empower women leaders who are influential through their roles in government, business, the church, and various other professional titles. We believe that further leadership development can unleash talent and potential. It is our hope to not only increase leadership capacity but to also influence young women into becoming transformational leaders in their communities.
Louise, aged 24, from Zimbabwe, said the following: “I am so glad I found out about Emit Women Leadership Institute. I did not know anything like this existed before someone invited me. I live outside of Harare, Zimbabwe. Where I live it is very difficult for young women. A lot of the women I know grew up in terrible family situations, some went to school, but more did not. Most just accept their difficult lives because they do not have hope. They do not know it can be better. I know a lot of other young women that need to learn what Emit is teaching. I am planning on taking the information I learned back to my community and teaching them. The young women in my community need to see that there is hope.”
