The Challenge:
Who will lead Africa in the 21 st Century?
Christianity has grown enormously in sub-Saharan Africa in the past 100 years:
- From 9 to 516 million Christians in 2010
- Approximately 16,000 Africans commit their lives to Christ each day
- Nearly 1,200 churches a month are being planted
While all that is great news, Africa is experiencing a crisis.
More than 70% of the churches in Africa have a leader with no biblical or theological training! The strength and health of the church, its ability to fulfill its mission, is directly proportionate to developing skilled leaders. In Africa religious leaders are a major force not only within their church, but also in broader society. Therefore, providing the church leaders with a strong biblical foundation, training in culturally relevant issues, and great leadership skills, are key to transforming communities.
Most church leaders in Africa do not have the luxury of attending formal Bible Schools or Seminaries. Weak untrained church leaders will produce weak undiscipled followers, who will constitute a weak Church with a dismal future. Strong, trained leaders will reproduce strong followers that will constitute a healthy vibrant Church with a great future!
EMIT’s Response:
Training Leaders. Transforming Nations.
In response to this critical need for trained church leaders in Africa, EMIT has developed an Advanced Pastoral Leadership training program that is intentional, cost-effective, relevant, and biblically sound. Students attend a 4-year Institute, completing a curriculum of 37 subjects.
They meet twice per year for 5-days at a time to train and be evaluated (tested). They will receive additional courses on DVD’s that they will study and complete at home.
EMIT has trained more than 125,000 African leaders these past 20 years.
This is only possible through its multiplication model where each person in the 4-year program commits to train at least 10 others with the leadership materials provided by EMIT. These leaders are now positively influencing millions of people.
