Like the first steps of a little baby, exciting to parents, yet bewildering for the infant, Mervis Malambo’s journey with EMIT began as far back as 2010 when she first enrolled as a student for the Advanced Diploma in Pastoral Leadership. This 4-year period of study laid the foundation of her journey in the world of Leadership and Community Transformation.

The training was different from what she had been accustomed to in the sense that the study material was very empirical and experiential. “Through the studies, it became evident that I still had a long way to fully understand and grasp the tenets of Leadership and the impact leadership had on community transformation. The first stroke was that the study material exposed my deficiencies in leadership which led me to the desire to learn more. Secondly, the wholistic approach to learning opened me up to critical thinking and a commitment to lifelong personal development.”

After graduating in 2014, Mervis was privileged to be given an opportunity to serve as Country National Secretary in Zambia. This was a part-time position where her roles included the training of community leaders. It was her first attempt at transformational leadership. Three years later, she became the Project Leader for EMIT Zambia.

Amid the exciting opportunity of leading a diverse team of people in EMIT Zambia and putting into practice the knowledge she had acquired during the training, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and life as we knew it changed. COVID-19 came with severe restrictions, especially with regards to gathering of people in mass numbers. However, she did not allow the new status quo of COVID-19 to derail and impede the execution of EMIT’s vision.

In 2023 Mervis was appointed as the Director of Special projects for the Women projects across the continent of Africa. We celebrate Mervis Malambo and wish her only the best in her new position.

“I now understand that a tree does not make shade for itself. Likewise, the life I live now is no longer about gathering for myself but sowing seeds of Love that will outlive me.” Mervis Malambo
