It all began in 2019, under the hot Zambian sun in Kabwe. Aaron Sikanyika, an EMIT student, looked around his community and saw something that broke his heart. Girls as young as fourteen were dropping out of school to raise children, their dreams fading before they could even take flight. Boys roamed the streets, some lost to drugs or scrap metal dealing, while others simply had nothing to keep them busy. Children grew up believing there was no way out of poverty.

Aaron knew he could try to make a difference. He believed every child had potential, a spark waiting to be ignited. Aaron founded the “Unstoppable Stars” football team with little more than determination and a love for football. His vision: if children had a safe space to play, learn, and grow, they might find a path toward a brighter future.

As months turned into years, change began to ripple through the community. Girls who once thought their lives were over after becoming mothers came back to train with the team. Boys who had been lured by drugs or idleness now found structure and pride in wearing the “Unstoppable Stars” jersey.

In 2020, the Unstoppable Stars joined the Football Association of Zambia Youth League and Women’s League. The girls’ team competed fiercely, moving from the provincial league to the Women’s District League by 2023. These achievements were proof that opportunities existed for everyone, regardless of background.

Aaron’s story is far from over. The Unstoppable Stars have already transformed countless lives. Through grit, compassion, and the universal language of football, Aaron has shown that when given a chance, every child truly is unstoppable —and every star deserves to shine.
